Skultuna kyrka

About the church

Skultuna kyrka is a church building that belongs to Norrbo parish in the Diocese of Västerås and is situated approximately 1 km south of the urban area of Skultuna and approximately 9 km north of the city of Västerås. The church was originally built during the High Middle Ages, but today is above all shaped by a major rebuilding in the 18th century, probably designed by Carl Fredrik Adelcrantz. The interior is largely the result of a renovation in the 1950s, when an attempt was made to recreate an 18th-century appearance.

A large part of the church's objects are made of brass, owing to the proximity to Skultuna Messingsbruk, the brassworks. But there is also, among other things, a baptismal font from around 1200 and a pair of medieval candle-bearing angels.

The church is part of the area of national interest for cultural heritage conservation Svartåns dalgång med Skultuna bruk [U 19], in which the medieval churches of Skerike and Skultuna are cited as expressions of the national interest.
