Why the site exists

A church can mean a great deal

Revisit a church

The church where you were baptised, got married or said goodbye. See it again, on your own or with someone who can no longer get there.

Prepare for a visit

Before a wedding, christening or funeral. See the room, the pews and the light before the day comes.

Accessibility

For anyone who finds it hard to get around, lives far away or is in hospital. The church should still be within reach.

Heritage for the future

The churches hold a thousand years of art, craftsmanship and history. Virtual tours document the interiors as they look today.

Background

Why I am building Svenskakyrkor.se

My mother was not particularly religious. Even so, the church was a place she liked to go to. She enjoyed simply being there, and the peace she found meant a great deal when life was hard.

In her final months she was often anxious. I wish I had seen the possibility then of letting her visit the church virtually.
