Lillhärads kyrka

About the church

Lillhärads kyrka is a church building in Lillhärad parish (historical) in the Diocese of Västerås. It is the parish church of Dingtuna-Lillhärad parish. The church was consecrated in 1849 after the earlier medieval church from the 13th century, together with the bell tower, was destroyed in a fire. The lower parts of the walls remain from the medieval church. The church's modest size makes it one of the smallest in the Diocese of Västerås.

For a few years in the 2010s the church was rented out to the Russian Orthodox parish of Västerås and fitted with an iconostasis in the Orthodox tradition. It could still be used for baptisms, weddings and funerals by the Church of Sweden.

After the Russian Orthodox parish built its own church, consecrated in 2020, Lillhärads kyrka has now been returned to the Church of Sweden and restored to its traditional furnishings.
