Harakers kyrka

About the church

Harakers kyrka is a church building in Haraker in the Diocese of Västerås. It was built in the second half of the 15th century and replaced an older church, probably built around 1200. Its present appearance and form, however, come from a major rebuilding in the late 18th century, when the church was lengthened and the tower received its present look. The church interior has changed several times over the years and therefore contains objects from many different periods. Among other things there is an unusually large number of medieval wooden sculptures and paintings from 1618 that are among the best-preserved in the diocese from the period after the Reformation, including the country's oldest depiction of Martin Luther in a church setting.
