About the church
Irsta kyrka is a church building in Irsta in the Diocese of Västerås. It is the parish church of Kungsåra parish in Västerås pastorate.
The oldest, western parts of the church date from the 13th century, but the church essentially reached its present size during the following two centuries. The characteristic tower spire, inspired by that of Västerås domkyrka, was added in the 18th century, when Carl Cronstedt of Gäddeholm also built a burial chancel in the east. The interior is marked by several later remodellings, the most recent in the 1970s.
Among other things, the church has badly damaged wall paintings from the 15th century and an altarpiece from the same century with a unique coronation scene.
