About the church

Badelunda kyrka is a church building in Badelunda parish (historical) in the Diocese of Västerås. It is the parish church of Västerås Badelunda parish.

The eastern parts of the church are the oldest, from the 13th century. Although the chancel was later rebuilt, the church is one of few in Svealand to have preserved the Romanesque form that dominated in the early Middle Ages, with a narrower and lower chancel. The sacristy and porch are also medieval. Medieval roof trusses have been preserved in the nave, the southern porch and the sacristy. The types of wood are spruce and oak. An older, original roof construction with tie beams and crossing braces has existed in the nave and sacristy. In the eastern gable masonry there are traces of plaster showing that a barrel vault once existed over the chancel. The western parts of the church and the burial chapel date from the 17th century.

In the bell tower there are reused medieval boards and floorboards showing the medieval technique of riving. In its basic form the construction resembles a medieval tower belfry. No year is given for the new construction of the bell tower in the building history. A bell tower is mentioned in 1650 as dilapidated.
