Björksta kyrka

About the church

Björksta kyrka is a church building in Björksta in the Diocese of Västerås. It is the parish church of Kungsåra parish. The church was originally built in the 13th century, possibly by a wealthy family on a nearby farm. It was then considerably smaller, but through extensions over the following two centuries it acquired its present size. The characteristic tower crown dates from 1860.

The church contains rich wall paintings, executed on three different occasions during the 14th and 15th centuries. There are also medieval furnishings in the form of a wooden sculpture, an unusual bronze baptismal kettle and communion vessels, and an elaborate pulpit from 1652.
