About the church

Gideonsbergskyrkan, which belongs to Gideonsberg parish, is located in the Gideonsberg district of Västerås.

The district church, built of dark red brick, was erected in 1972 to plans by the architect Peter-Paul Hoffman and was consecrated on 1 December 1973 by Bishop Sven Silén, after almost 20 years of preparation and fundraising. The church was built to serve the growing population that had settled in the new district on the old lands of the Gideonsberg manor. Beside it a low, blue-painted bell tower was erected. Among the church's furnishings are the altarpiece Härlighetens himmel, made by Birgitta Hagnell - Lindén, and fifteen paintings by Leon Szuter that symbolise the Via Dolorosa.
