About the church

Dingtuna kyrka is a church building in Dingtuna in the Diocese of Västerås, the parish church of Dingtuna-Lillhärad parish in the Diocese of Västerås.

The church was built in the 14th century and replaced a church two hundred years older that had previously stood on the same site. From the very beginning the church was unusually large, and it is still among the largest today. Its exterior appearance is, however, largely shaped by an alteration in 1842, when, among other things, the tower was given its present form to designs by Johan Fredrik Åbom. In the eastern parts of the church there are relatively well-preserved wall paintings from the 1470s, painted by Albertus Pictor. An altarpiece shrine from the same century has also been preserved.

Next to the church stand two of the original four church stables, a former parish clerk's cottage from the 18th century and a church school that is still in use, whose main building dates from the late 19th century. The present vicarage, which is used as a parish hall, was built in 1948 and lies south of the churchyard. An older vicarage from the 18th century lies further south.
