Kummelby kyrka

About the church

Kummelby kyrka is a church in the district of Helenelund in Sollentuna Municipality. It belongs to Sollentuna parish in the Diocese of Stockholm within the Church of Sweden. The first Kummelbykyrkan in Sollentuna parish was built in 1956–1957 on the site where Kummelby farm had previously stood. During the 1970s the church was extended, but the space still proved insufficient, and in September 1999 the church was taken out of use temporarily. Construction of a new church began a few weeks later, and just before Christmas in the year 2000 a new church was consecrated. The old church had room for no more than 50 people in the worship space, and was therefore sometimes called “Kummelby lillkyrka” (Kummelby little church).

It is the third church of Sollentuna parish, after the medieval parish church and S:t Eriks kyrka, but unlike those, parish premises were built at the same time in the same building. The parish hall was separated from the worship space by a folding partition.
