Hakarps kyrka

About the church

Hakarps kyrka is a church building in the historic Hakarp parish in the Diocese of Växjö. It is the parish church of Hakarp parish in Huskvarna pastorate. The church is located in the church village of Hakarp and is a pink cruciform church and a church of special interest to visitors, built in 1694. Before the stone church there were two churches: a stave church, built in the mid-12th century, and a church built of horizontal logs, erected around 1283. The log church from the 13th century was demolished at the same time as the present stone church was built. The new church contains, among other things, a crucifix that is believed to have belonged to the church since the first one was built.

When the stone church was to be built in 1694, the parish had been granted a collection, which was taken up during Easter. However, the money from the collection was not enough for the new construction, and Inspector General of Customs Nils Arvidsson Hägerflycht then paid for the new church. Hägerflycht employed Johan Olsson Ståhle as site foreman and a possible architect was Erik Dahlbergh.

Hägerflycht paid for the new church with 6,000 daler in copper coin and 1,700 daler in copper coin for the organ and other furnishings.
