Vätö kyrka

About the church

Vätö kyrka is a church building on Vätö in the Diocese of Uppsala. The church, which belongs to Roslagsbro-Vätö parish, is situated between Vätö hamn, where boats to the mainland used to call, and Vätöbron, which has now replaced the ferry service. Near the church lie the ruins of a Franciscan friary. East of the church, on a hill, stands a bell tower that was built by 1632 at the latest, but may be much older than that. The bell tower originally had an open construction. Beside the church is the parish hall, which was formerly an elementary school, as well as a former parish meeting house.
