About the church
Skederids kyrka is a church building in Skederid parish (historical), belonging to Husby, Skederid and Rö parish in Roslagens västra pastorate in the Diocese of Uppsala. The church lies halfway between Norrtälje and Rimbo. Only two kilometres away, and within sight, lies Husby-Sjuhundra kyrka. The most likely explanation for two churches lying so close to each other is that Skederids kyrka was originally the estate church of Finsta herrgård. The church was probably built by the lawman Birger Persson, who was the father of Saint Birgitta. West of the church, at the entrance to the churchyard, there is a masonry lychgate from the Middle Ages. In 1775–1776 a wooden bell tower was built on top of the lychgate, replacing an earlier freestanding bell tower from 1692. Timber from the old bell tower was reused. On the southern side of the church hill there is a mortuary built around 1960 to a proposal by Jörgen Fåk.
Until the pastorate reform in Roslagen on 1 January 2018, the church belonged to Rimbo pastorate.
