About the church
Umeå stads kyrka is a church building in central Umeå, opposite Vänortsparken on the northern bank of the Ume river. It is the parish church of Umeå stadsförsamling (Umeå City Parish) in the Diocese of Luleå.
The church is a three-aisled hall church in Neo-Gothic style with the tower placed at the side of the nave, on the north façade. It was designed by the then city architect Fredrik Olaus Lindström and built of brick with a stone base. The church was built between 1892 and 1894 and is the third in a series of churches on the same site. Three restorations with alterations and extensions have partly changed the original appearance of the church. The church was consecrated on 2 December 1894, which was the first Sunday of Advent that year.
