Östra Herrestads kyrka probably dates from the mid-12th century and was built in the Romanesque style with a nave, chancel and apse. In the tympanum of the portal in the south wall of the nave we can read "Carl Stenmester scar thenna sten". Here we thus get the name of this church's "architect", Carl Stenmästare.
