Hyby gamla kyrka is what remains of the medieval church from the 12th century. In 1873 lightning struck the church spire and most of the church was destroyed. The wall paintings in the church ceiling depict the death of Jesus on Golgotha, the apostles and the Last Judgement.

About the church
Hyby gamla kyrka, or Hyby kapell, is a church building in Hyby. It belongs to Värby parish in the Diocese of Lund.
The church dates from the 12th century.
On 9 September 1873 lightning struck the church, causing a fire. The accident led to the decision to build a new church not far from the old one. Hyby nya kyrka was completed in 1877. Of the old church, only the large chancel was kept, which served as a burial chapel for the noble Trolle family of nearby Klågerup Castle. The family had already used the church as a burial church before the fire. Here lay three coffins of the young Trolle family members who drowned at Torup in 1775. In 1940 the coffins in the burial chancel were considered to be in such poor condition that they were to be buried in the ground. In 1951 the church was restored to its present appearance.
Hyby gamla kyrka was dedicated to St Nicholas and consisted of a long chancel and a nave with two cross vaults. The nave had a portal in the south for the men and one in the north for the women. In the 18th century a tower was built west of the nave, fitted with a very tall spire.
