About the church
Ekerö kyrka in Ekerö parish lies by Kyrkfjärden in Lake Mälaren, just west of the manor house Asknäs and an ancient great burial mound, the only one on Ekerö. The church was built in the latter half of the 12th century as a manor church at Askanäs (Asknäs). The parish was then called alternately Ekerö and Asknäs.
