Strängnäs domkyrka

Strängnäs domkyrka is a church building located on Kyrkberget in central Strängnäs. It is the cathedral of the Diocese of Strängnäs and the parish church of Strängnäs domkyrkoförsamling med Aspö (Strängnäs Cathedral Parish with Aspö) within the Church of Sweden.

The present cathedral was built around 1260–1340 as a three-aisled Gothic hall church of brick. The cathedral was consecrated in the 1330s and was then dedicated to the apostles Peter and Paul. This original part of the building is called Kärnkyrkan (the Core Church), and in the 14th and 15th centuries it was supplemented with extensions for burial chancels, side chapels, a sacristy and a high chancel with an ambulatory in the east. The 75-metre-high bell tower has been extended on several occasions, and since 1745 it has been crowned by a characteristic Baroque tower cap.

Strängnäs became an episcopal see in the early 12th century, and the church has had the status of cathedral of the Diocese of Strängnäs ever since it was consecrated. Since 2015 Johan Dalman has been Bishop of the Diocese of Strängnäs.
