As early as 1829 it was decided to build a new church, and drawings were ordered from Major Justus Weinberg, who had made drawings for a good many Neoclassical churches. Two years later it was decided to engage the economy director and master builder Abraham Nyström from Hållingstorp in Kristberg (1789 - 1849). According to the contract he undertook to build the new church for 8,500 riksdaler banco, excluding materials and days of labour.
