About the church
Säters kyrka in Säter is the parish church of Säterbygden parish in the Diocese of Västerås. The present church was built in 1778-1779. The tower, however, was replaced in 1806-1807, as it stood on unstable ground. In 1811 the design of the organ façade and the altar was decided.
Another stone church previously stood on the site. It was consecrated in the autumn of 1635 and replaced a wooden church that had been in use in 1628-1635. It turned out, however, that this church was poorly built, and it was demolished in 1778.
Adjoining the church, on the other side of the street, lies the parish hall Coriandergården. It takes its name from Säter's first vicar, Magnus Andræ Coriander, active 1636-1663, who also gave his name to the church choir, Corianderkören.
