Construction of the church began in the 13th century and was completed in the 14th century. From the Middle Ages it was the main church of the town of Örebro. Several major historical events have taken place in the church, such as the funeral of Engelbrekt in 1436 and the election of Jean Baptiste Bernadotte as heir to the Swedish throne in 1810.
