Överklintens kyrka

About the church

Överklintens kyrka is a church building in the village of Överklinten. Since 2000 it has belonged to Bygdeå parish in the Diocese of Luleå. The church stands by the river Rickleån about 10 km north-west of the town of Robertsfors.

The church was built in the Neo-Gothic style in 1902-1904. It is a so-called long-nave church with a narrowing chancel and a tower in the west, and resembles the Robertsfors ironworks church of the time, which was demolished in 1956. The long walls are divided externally by pilasters.

In 1939-1940 the church was rebuilt to designs by Knut Nordenskjöld. The tower was rebuilt, given straight walls and a four-sided pointed spire. The roof of the nave was covered with tiles, while the tower roof was covered with slate.

The church interior itself is covered by a barrel vault.
