Norra Rörums kyrka is a relatively unusual church for a parish church. The altar stands in the north, not towards the east. According to an old legend, the church, which was originally built around the year 1200, is dedicated to Saint Anne, the maternal grandmother of Jesus. She is usually depicted together with Mary and the infant Jesus. This motif is called Alla Själv Tredje in Swedish – from the German Anna Selbdritt.
