About the church
Markims kyrka belongs to Vallentuna parish and lies on a hill in a fertile agricultural landscape. The church formerly belonged to Markim parish, which merged into Vallentuna parish in 2006.
The name Markim may mean "the farmstead out towards the fields", which refers to the wooded areas to the north. Markims kyrka is first mentioned in a deed of testament from the year 1287. On the hill where the church is built there was a sacrificial spring, which was probably in use in pagan times. Offerings were also made here to Saint Lars, who was probably the church's patron saint. On the north side of the churchyard stands a runestone.
