About the church
Lye kyrka is a church building in Lye on Gotland.
Of the church building, the nave dates from the late 12th century, the tower is dated to 1240 and the chancel was built in 1325.
In connection with the building of the chancel, the tower was raised.
At the west portal of the tower there is a reliquary chest with reliefs by Sighrafr from the 12th century.
The church has numerous wall paintings from the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries. The largest surviving series of stained glass in the Nordic countries, made by the Lye Master in the 14th century, is found in the chancel.
The church's baptismal font dates from the 13th century, the altarpiece is dated 1496 and there is a triumphal crucifix from the 15th century. The pulpit was made in 1705.
