About the church
Ludvika lillkyrka, or Lillkyrkan, is a church building in Ludvika parish in the Diocese of Västerås. The church is located in the district of Ludvika gård in south-western Ludvika, Dalarna County.
Lillkyrkan was consecrated on 24 November 1973 by Bishop Sven Silén. Plans for a church on the site began in the 1950s, when Ludvika Municipality started to build up the area with high-rise blocks. In the late 1950s a cellar in one of the high-rise blocks was fitted out as a temporary church space, which in popular speech was given the name Lillkyrkan. As this name was considered well established, the newly built church took over the name.
The church was designed by Tore Virke and is built together with the associated parish hall. The church is built of brick, rendered on the outside and with pine panelling on the inside. The architect drew inspiration for the ceiling light fittings, which can also serve as holders for 48 real candles, from Junsele kyrka, and they were also made in Junsele. Much of the furnishings, for example the baptismal font in larch wood with timber from larches in the same district, were made by Hillängens Småindustrier.
The church also has a wooden bell tower in the yard in front of the church.
