About the church

Kågedalens kyrka, also known as Kusmarks kyrka, is the parish church of Kågedalen parish in Västerbotten and is located in the small locality of Kusmark. It belongs to the Diocese of Luleå in the Church of Sweden. The church was built of brick to designs by Kjell Westin and was consecrated on 12 June 1932 by Bishop Olof Bergqvist. From the church tower there is a magnificent view over the river Kågeälven and the village of Kusmark. At the very top of the 50-metre-high tower sits the stately Church Rooster. The rooster is 2.27 m tall, weighs 80 kg and is covered in gold leaf. The rooster was made by Karl Andreas Lundgren, Skellefteå. In 2007 Svenska kyrktuppsfrämjandet (the Swedish Church Rooster Society) named the church rooster "Church Rooster of the Year". Beside the church lies Bönens trädgård (the Garden of Prayer), a prayer and meditation garden inspired by the bracelet Frälsarkransen.
