About the church
Hökhuvuds kyrka is a church building and parish church of Skäfthammar-Hökhuvud parish in the Diocese of Uppsala. The church is located in the locality of Hökhuvud east of the Olandsån. In the flat terrain there is a projecting rocky ridge that may be the origin of the parish name. South-east of the church, on a hill, stands a bell tower built in 1771. The tower is built of timber from the old bell tower at Gimo bruk. The churchyard is surrounded by a dry-stone churchyard wall that was previously covered with a shingle roof. In the churchyard wall there were formerly lychgates, which have now been removed. The churchyard has been extended to the south. At the bridge below the church a smashed runestone has been found. The fragments have now been joined together, and the stone U 597 stands at Hökhuvud vicarage.
