Herrestads kyrka

Herrestad is a medieval parish and is mentioned as early as 1208. The first church on the site was probably made of wood, but the present church was built of limestone in the early 12th century. It is regarded as the oldest church in Vadstena and Dal.

About the church
Herrestads kyrka is a church building in Herrestad in the Diocese of Linköping. It is the parish church of Dal parish. The church lies 25 km north of Ödeshög and 9 km south-west of Vadstena. Herrestads kyrka is regarded as one of the oldest preserved churches in Sweden. Sampling of the oak roof trusses of the nave suggests that the trees were felled around the year 1112.
