About the church
Hagakyrkan is a church building belonging to Stora Tuna parish in the Diocese of Västerås. It is built together with the town hall in central Borlänge. Hagakyrkan was inaugurated on 27 September 1936 under the name Borlänge-Domnarvet parish hall. The name was changed to Hagakyrkan in 1972, and as many of the services in the church are held in Finnish, the name Hagakirkko is also used.
The church replaced a temporary parish hall lent by Stora Kopparbergs Bergslag at Hushagen, in use 1902–1936. Borlänge grew in the early 20th century and a more centrally located parish hall was considered necessary, since the nearest church buildings of the future town were Stora Tuna kyrka 6 kilometres to the south and Amsbergs kapell just over 6 kilometres to the north.
To build the church, the parish cooperated with Stora Tuna rural municipality and later with Domnarvet rural municipality. The church and the town hall, which are joined by the galleria, were designed by John Åkerlund. The town hall was originally called the Domnarvet municipal hall and was inaugurated on 26 September 1936.
