As early as 1100-1200 the oldest parts of Gryta kyrka were built. Before that there was probably a wooden church, and this was an area that was Christianised early.

Gryta kyrka is a medieval church building located about two kilometres north-east of Örsundsbro. The church lies in a flat valley along the old royal Eriksgata in Lagunda parish in the Diocese of Uppsala. County Road C 589 leads to the church. About 500 metres from the church lies Salnecke slott.
