About the church
Frötuna kyrka is a church building in Frötuna and belongs to Frötuna parish in the Diocese of Uppsala. The church is located just south of Norrtälje, on a rise in the terrain at the northern end of Lake Frötuna kyrksjö. The churchyard wall was built by men from Dalarna in the early 19th century and largely follows the course of the medieval churchyard. To the north and east, two medieval lychgates have been preserved. The northern lychgate is probably the oldest. The lychgates to the south and west have now been demolished. The southern lychgate was called Ösbyholms stiglucka and was so large that it was used as a parish granary. The western lychgate was for those parishioners who arrived by boat. The bell tower was built in 1812. South-east of the church lies the vicarage.
