About the church

Carl Gustafs kyrka in Karlshamn parish in the Diocese of Lund was designed by Erik Dahlbergh. The church, which stands in the middle of Karlshamn, began to be built in the 1680s and was consecrated in 1702, named after the town's founder Karl X Gustav. The consecration was performed by Bishop Mattias Steuchius. A wooden church from 1664 preceded the present stone church.

Early history: Donations to the church were given in the following years for: An altarpiece in 1674; for the pulpit in 1685 and 1704; the west chandelier in 1704; the east chandelier in 1706; the north and south chandeliers in 1719; the baptismal font in 1717; the two number boards to the west in 1708; the same to the east in 1720; two candle brackets in 1741; 8 sconces in the chancel in 1754; the hearse in 1795.

Personal gifts: a chalice of 62 lod (an old Swedish unit of weight) of silver was given in 1690 by an L. M. D.; likewise the paten of 15 lod of silver; the wafer box of 20 lod was given by Herman Broms; the flagon of 84 lod was given by Paul Calwagen; a spoon of 6 lod by A. S. v. D. H.; two candlesticks of 86 lod each and a pair of candle snuffers of 10 lod were given in 1711 by the button-maker Schultz; the baptismal dish of 286 lod by the merchant Carl Lorich in 1754.
