About the church
Gammalstorps kyrka is a church building in Gammalstorp in the Diocese of Lund. It is the parish church of Sölvesborg parish. Gammalstorp is about 8 kilometres north of Sölvesborg. The church stands on a hill that was formerly an island, Kyrkön, which lay in a navigable strait, Vesan. According to a legend, a Viking fleet is said to have wintered at the island, introduced Christianity and built the first church in the area. This is said to have happened in the 12th century.
