About the church
Anga kyrka is a church of uniform construction in the Romanesque style from the first half of the 13th century. It is one of the smallest on Gotland and replaced an older church that had burned down. In 1717 the church was plundered by the Russians, who carried off money, textiles and other movable property; the church bell was stolen, and with axes they smashed chests and cupboards. The church was restored in 1946–1947 following proposals by the architect Erik Fant, and in addition externally in 1983.
