Vallby kyrka

About the church

Vallby kyrka is a beautiful white stone church, rurally situated between Torshälla and Sundbyholm. The church belongs to Kafjärden parish and is located in Eskilstuna Municipality.

The present stone church building was erected on top of a gravel ridge in the early 12th century. It is believed to have been preceded by a wooden chapel. In the 14th century the church was extended. The nave was then lengthened to the east. The old chancel was demolished and a new chancel was built.

The oldest furnishing of the church is a baptismal font from the 12th century. On the font lies a brass dish from 1943.

In 1882 a gilded altar cross was acquired. After that, the altarpiece from the 15th century was put in the woodshed of the poor.
