Valdemarsviks kyrka

About the church

Valdemarsviks kyrka is a church building in Valdemarsvik Municipality belonging to Valdemarsvik parish and the Diocese of Linköping.

The church was built in 1875–1877 and consecrated in the latter year. The church tower and church bells were consecrated in 1905. Renovations of the church took place in 1917 and 1977. Around Easter 2008, parts of the interior ceiling collapsed. The collapse came as a surprise even though cracks had been visible in the ceiling for several years. The church had to be closed for repairs and was given a new wooden interior ceiling. A ramp that eliminates the step up to the chancel was installed, and a new sound system was fitted, as well as a "light ring" in the chancel to improve the lighting. In addition, the sacristy was fitted with partly new furnishings and the whole church was repainted. In November 2008 the church was reconsecrated.
