Where the main highway between Stockholm and Nyköping crossed the waterway between Lake Mälaren and the Baltic Sea, there lay in olden times the royal manor of Husby, and on its lands Vagnhärads kyrka was built. There are no traces of any 12th-century church; the church that stands in Vagnhärad today has its oldest parts from the end of the 13th century.
