Suntaks gamla kyrka

A couple of hundred metres north of the new parish church stands Suntaks gamla kyrka, which dates from the late 12th century. The church is built of rendered sandstone. It has no tower and consists of a nave and an apse-ended chancel. In the 17th century the sacristy was added on the north side, adjoining the chancel.

About the church
Suntaks gamla kyrka is a church building that since 2002 has belonged to Valstad parish (formerly Suntak parish) in the Diocese of Skara. The church is located in Tidaholm Municipality. It has been a state-listed building (statligt byggnadsminne) since 14 February 2019. The church is usually kept locked.
The church lies in an agricultural area cut through by ridges, on which there are several ancient monuments. The church is part of a cohesive village environment with remnants of buildings from the time before the land reform of the 19th century, and a manor house that arose then. The new Suntaks kyrka and an old school lie at the opposite end of the village. From the time of the railway halt there is a station building.
