About the church
Söraby kyrka is a church building situated in the community of Rottne in Växjö Municipality. It is the parish church of Söraby parish in the Diocese of Växjö. The present church was built in the late 18th century and replaced older church buildings in Norra Rottne (Norraby gamla kyrka) and Södra Rottne, which had previously each formed a separate parish with its own church.
The church site where Söraby kyrka stands today, by the older village roads east of Lake Sörabysjön, has had a religious function since the early Middle Ages. A church stood on the site, which was one of the two original churches of Norra and Södra Rottne. It has also been suggested that Södra Rottne church may have been the oldest and original of these.
