The church, which has a very scenic, high and fresh-aired setting close to Lake Skirösjön, was considered after its construction to be the most beautiful in the district. The medieval church, which was in Romanesque style, lies on a hill a short distance away and is now a ruin. Skirö nya kyrka was built between 1835 and 1837 to designs by the architect Jacob Wilhelm Gerss.
