About the church
Öja kyrka is a church building in Öja on Gotland. It is the parish church of Hoburg parish, Sudret pastorate, in the Diocese of Visby.
The church is known for its medieval wooden sculpture depicting a grieving Virgin Mary (Mater dolorosa). The original is kept at Gotlands museum and a copy of the sculpture stands in the chancel of the church. The sculpture is sometimes called "Our Lady of Öja" or "Öjamadonnan".
The tower of Öja kyrka, at 59.15 metres, is the tallest church tower on Gotland.
