About the church
Mariakyrkan is one of the churches in Sigtuna parish in the Diocese of Uppsala and the oldest building in Sigtuna still in use.
The associated belfry from the 18th century was ravaged by fire on the morning of 30 June 2016. Some sources consider the belfry to date back as far as 1608. It has been rebuilt on the same spot, a hill near the ruins of Sankt Lars kyrka.
