About the church
Luleå domkyrka is a church building from 1893 located in central Luleå. It is the cathedral of the Diocese of Luleå and the parish church of Luleå domkyrkoförsamling (Luleå Cathedral Parish) within the Church of Sweden.
The cathedral stands in the middle of the peninsula on which the Innerstaden district is situated, at the peninsula's highest point. A church has stood on the site since 1667. The church became a cathedral in 1904, when the Diocese of Luleå was formed by splitting the Diocese of Härnösand.
The building is constructed of red brick in Neo-Gothic style and has a cruciform plan designed by the architect Adolf Emil Melander. It is Sweden's northernmost and youngest cathedral.
