Lögdö kyrka

About the church

Lögdö kyrka is a church building in Lögdö bruk. It is the parish church of Hässjö parish in the Diocese of Härnösand. The church lies next to the river Ljustorpsån, about 100 metres from the ironworks' manor house. The church was built in 1717 on the initiative of the ironworks owner Mathias Krapp. Since church attendance was compulsory in Sweden until 1809, the church was a good investment, as the ironworks' workers no longer had to spend half of the day of rest getting to and from Ljustorps kyrka. In 1834 Lögdö bruk got its own churchyard. Until then, burials had to take place in Ljustorp or Timrå.
