About the church
Lekvattnets kyrka in Lekvattnet, in Lekvattnet parish, is a wooden church built in 1850–53 under the direction of the master builder Nils Olsson from Västra Ämtervik.
At the consecration the church consisted of a rectangular nave with a three-sided chancel and a west tower. A sacristy was added on the east side in 1933, in connection with a thorough restoration. There are entrances in the west and in the middle of the south side of the nave.
The church's log walls are clad in vertical panelling, both outside and inside, and are pierced by rectangular door and window openings. The exterior of the Falu-red church has window surrounds, mouldings and lantern in white, with simple, classicising details. The church interior is covered by a boarded vault.
The original colours of the altarpiece and pulpit, both Baroque works acquired from Sunne kyrka, were uncovered in 1933. The present colour scheme of the interior dates mainly from the restoration in 1977 and to some extent follows the polychromy of the older furnishings. The altarpiece dates from 1697, and the pulpit, from 1670, formerly belonged to Östra Ämterviks kyrka.
