Kristine kyrka

The foundation of Kristine kyrka was laid on Kristina Day, 24 July 1649, as a tribute to Queen Christina and in the hope that the queen would show particular consideration to the town's authorities.

About the church
Kristine kyrka, or Kristinakyrkan, is a church building in Jönköping in the Diocese of Växjö. It is the parish church of Jönköping parish. It was built in the 17th century, after the town had been moved east to the eastern side of the Hamnkanalen canal. The church replaced the earlier town church, Jungfru Maria och Sankt Nikolaus kyrka, which was burned down in 1612 by the townspeople in anticipation of a Danish attack, together with the other buildings of the town, which at that time lay west of the present Hamnkanalen.
