Katarina kyrka lies in Södermalm in Stockholm. It was built between 1656 and 1695 to designs by Jean de la Vallée, royal architect responsible for the state's building activity. Katarina kyrka is a church building at Högbergsgatan 13 in eastern Södermalm in Stockholm. It is the parish church of Katarina parish in the Diocese of Stockholm. It was first completed in 1695 but has since been struck by two fires. After the most recent fire in 1990 the church was reconsecrated in 1995. The church is named after Princess Katarina, mother of Karl X Gustav. Thanks to its elevated position, Katarina kyrka is an important feature of Stockholm's cityscape. It is one of 43 churches in the City of Stockholm protected by the Historic Environment Act (kulturmiljölagen).
