About the church
Hjorthagens kyrka, sometimes referred to as Hjorthagskyrkan, is a church building in Engelbrekt parish. It is located on Dianavägen in the district of Hjorthagen in Stockholm.
Those in charge of Hedvig Eleonora parish, the district's parish at the time, had objections to the brick façades in the architect Carl Bergsten's competition entry from 1904. The façade surfaces were thought to become too similar to the surrounding buildings. Bergsten held his ground and eventually got his proposal accepted. Construction of the church began in 1907 under the master builder Vilhelm Norrbin, and it could be consecrated on 25 March 1909 by Archbishop Johan August Ekman.
The church was restored in 1967 under the direction of the architect Jan Wahlman.
