Grebo kyrka

In the Grebo-Värna pastorate a proposal for a new church was raised during the 18th century, since both the Grebo and Värna churches were in poor condition. The decision was to renovate Värna kyrka and build a new church in Grebo. In 1773 the church was completely finished.

About the church
Grebo kyrka lies in the historical parish of Grebo in Åtvidaberg Municipality and belongs to Åtvid parish in the Diocese of Linköping. The church lies about 10 kilometres north-west of Åtvidaberg. Next to Grebo kyrka, one of the richest graves in Östergötland from the Late Roman Iron Age has been found. It contained, among other things, a large set of weapons, a gold finger ring and two Roman bronze vessels. The grave is dated to the early 3rd century (phase C1b). The finds are kept in the Swedish History Museum under inventory number 7788.
